Blacksmith Forge

Matt Jenkins is an award-winning blacksmith from Manitoba who received an Honorable Mention in the 2009 World Forging Championships in Italy. Matt is also an esteemed instructor at the John C. Campbell Craft School in North Carolina and serves as Director on the Board of the Manitoba Crafts Council. He was the blacksmith at Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site and annually attends the Festival du Voyageur in Winnipeg.

BASIC BLACKSMITHING COURSE

The basic blacksmithing course teaches each student, one on one, the fundamental skills in producing personal, metal art pieces. During this course, you will learn hammer control, fire building, metal temperature control and color recognition, as well as drawing out the steel and shaping. Four projects commence over the weekend, one of which will be of the student’s own design.

Cloverdale Forge is conveniently located at Cloverdale Farm & Craft School, 25 minutes from Winnipeg.

Class Times: 9am – 4pm

Fee: $220 per student (includes course fee and farm-style lunch for both days)

Material Costs: $30 per student, paid to the instructor on the first day of class. There is also a B&B available for Saturday night, which includes free studio time.

Dinner is available upon request and at an additional cost.

Cancellation Policy: Payment is refundable with cancellation in writing up to one week prior to course date, minus a $20 administration fee. Cancellations less than one week prior to arrival date are non-refundable. A minimum of four participants are required for the course to proceed. If the course does not proceed, course fee will be refunded with no administration fee charged.
